JVRA Swim Team
JVRA offers swim team to children ages 4 – 17.
We begin the younger ones with “swim lessons” and move them over to the swim team as they improve on their swimming skills. The goal is to have everyone swim in at least one meet before the season ends.
We have a phenomenal coaching staff comprised of Jones Valley swimmers who have countless years of swimming experience in the summer and year round programs. They have earned numerous honors including:
- Many Southeastern Swimming Hall of Fame Inductees
- Southeastern Swimming All Stars
- RCSL and HSA record holders
- Huntsville Times Elite Swim Team honorees
- Captains from the Randolph and Huntsville High Swim Teams
- Many top 8 finishes at the Alabama High School state meet
- Finalists at the Southeastern Championship meet
- A 2010 summer Junior National Championship Qualifier
They are dedicated, talented and fun!
Our previous swimmers include Margaret Hoelzer, 2 time Olympic silver medalist in the 2008 summer Olympics.
JVRA is a member of the Rocket City Swim League where we have earned the distinction of the City Meet Champions for the last five years. We are hoping to make it six!

SWIM COACHES MUST SEND IN APPLICATION BY MARCH 31. WE WILL NOT ACCEPT COACHING APPLICATIONS AFTER THIS DATE! APPLICATIONS WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE POOL NEWSLETTER "IN THE SWIM" OR DOWNLOADED HERE.
I am super excited to announce that Ryan Espy will be our head coach this season! She has always done an outstanding job as an assistant coach and has some great ideas for our upcoming season. Many of our coaches will be returning so make sure you’re returning too! We need YOU to continue our City Champ reign!!!!
Our first meet is Wednesday, June 2nd. This means we have only a few days of morning practices before this home meet. It will be tight but we have worked in some after school practices as well. BRRRRR!
IMPORTANT DATES:
• Parents’ Meeting will be Sunday, May 2nd at 4:00 p.m. at the pool. Please make every effort to attend. We share our concerns, give out pertinent information and sign up for the season. Practice schedules and Meet schedules will be handed out.
• T-shirts will be available for sale at the parents’ meeting and swim practice. We are not doing pre-orders this year so purchase them early. This is a swim team fundraiser so buy one for each member of your family!
• Practice will begin on Monday, May 17th. We will meet at 3:30 and practice until 5:00. We will do this Monday thru Friday. We will continue this schedule the next week until school is out. More details as time approaches.
• Children that are 6 & under and need “beginner” lessons will begin Monday, June 7th thru Friday, June 25th. Ryan will be training the coaches prior to this session on “teaching a child to swim.” It will only be three weeks but will be well worth the swim team fee.
• Time Trials will tentatively be held on Thursday, May 27th after school OR Saturday, May 29th at 9 am.
• Our first Swim Meet will be Wednesday, June 2nd at Jones Valley.
• Our 2nd annual Parent/Child swim meet will be Thursday, July 1st.
• City Meet will be held July 10th and 11th. The banquet will be the following Monday, July 12th.
We have a new suit this year. You can purchase it at 1st Place Athletics. (This is not mandatory that you have a team suit.) I have swim caps for sale.
I need lots of volunteers. I especially need an assistant who is willing to take the swim team mom position in 2011! Please talk to me if you are interested. This is a fun and rewarding job!!!!
